ABC 4 is reporting that the state may be ready to cut a deal with Energy Solutions on bringing Italian Nuclear Waste to its 439 acre waste facility in Clive, Utah. Its been learned that the company has been in talks with the Utah Attorney General’s Office. The State has recently fought the company in federal court to stop the foreign importation of waste, but now that the case is in the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals its feared that if the state loses then the state would get nothing if the waste is eventually brought in. If the state gives up its fight in court and lets Energy Solutions bring in the waste the company would split the profits with the state. Its estimated that this would amount to around a $100 million per year. This deal would have to be approved by Gov. Herbert.
