Many who seek medical records from the VA are well aware that thus far they have been unable to retrieve records in electronic format necessitating the copying of vast amounts of paper. Initially the transfer of electronic records will be between the VA and the DOD and has a deadline of Sept. 30, 2009. While there may be some ability of these two agencies to transfer records electronically it doesn’t appear that the vast majority of records will be ready by the time the deadline is reached.
