Utah state legislators met with local Snake Valley residents who worry about the proposed withdrawal of 25,000 acre feet per year that could be operational by 2015. Locals fear that state leaders and agencies are not paying heed to locals who oppose the withdrawal and a deal could soon be signed before groundwater studies are completed. Utah state legislators will meet with their Nevada counterparts during visit and some Utah legislators have already voiced opposition to the project.
It is uncertain what backdeal negotiations are being conducted, but clearly there must be a lot of money at stake and obviously precious water. Nevada leaders are likely pressuring the completion of a deal before the completion of any studies.
